Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) For Chronic Knee Pain
- Chronic knee pain has seen a significant rise over the past two decades, leading to increased functional limitations, mobility challenges, and decreased quality of life.
- PNS is an alternative management approach for chronic knee pain across various conditions.
- PNS involves implanting an electrode near a targeted nerve to deliver electrical stimulation, which interrupts pain signals, providing pain relief.
The process starts with a discussion with a pain specialist to see if you are a candidate for the system or not. You then complete psychological evaluation to rule out any contraindication before moving forward with a 7-day Trial (Typically done in the office).
If you report more than 50% pain reduction with improved sleep and function during the trial, you are a candidate for permeant implant for prolonged pain relief.
Commonly, patients will present with the Following conditions and/or medical history:
- Osteoarthritis Knee Pain
- Post-Surgical Chronic Pain
- Chronic Knee pain from sports injuries or accidents.
- Successful Nerve Block
- Mononeuropathies
- Successful RFAs
- Failed SCS
- Blood Thinner Dependent
- Comorbidities
